Prof. Dr. Medaim Yanık started his medical education at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1987. In 2000, he became a specialist in mental health and diseases at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. Between 2000 and 2005, he served as a faculty member and department head at Harran University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. He became an associate professor in the field of Mental Health and Diseases in 2005. Between 2005 and 2009, he served as Chief Physician and Clinical Chief at Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital. During this period, he managed the transition of electroconvulsive therapy to using anesthesia and muscle relaxants both in Bakırköy and other mental health hospitals. During the same period, he served as an advisor to the Minister of Health in the field of mental health. During this process, he worked on "Writing the mental health action plan", "Transition to the community mental health model", "Improvement of psychiatric hospitals", "Architecture of psychiatric hospitals". Between 2009 and 2015, he worked as a founding faculty member of the psychology department at Istanbul Şehir University. He became a professor in 2010. He did his specialization thesis in the field of childhood traumatic experiences and dissociative disorders. In his thesis, he investigated forgetting and remembering physical, emotional and sexual traumas experienced in childhood and its relationship with dissociative symptoms. Psychotherapy of patients with dissociative identity disorder is one of his areas of expertise.
He also works in the field of "family and spousal relations". He has books titled "Dest-i Izdivaç: Who Will Be Happy Who Marries Whom?", "7 Characteristics of Happy Marriages" and "While Raising Children: Traumatic Mistakes-Developing Truths". Prof. Dr. Yanık developed the “Marriage Strengthening Program”. He has 25 articles published in international journals and 21 articles published in national journals.
In 2017, he started teaching at the Department of Psychology at Ibn Haldun University. He continues to work as department head. At the same time, while serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Ibn Haldun University Psychotherapy Application and Research Center (IPAM), he gives lectures and supervision to clinical psychology graduate students and sees clients. Dr. Yanık is married and has three children.
