Looking at the Covid-19 Process with a Collective Poem: "About a Small Stone Thrown into the Sea"
This document was created in a group process initiated by Narrative therapist Iclal Eskioğlu Aydın, in which knowledge, skills, and values that enable people to cope with the difficulties experienced during the COVID-19 process were discovered. This group work was conducted with a group of psychologists who are students of the Ibn Haldun University Clinical Psychology master's program.
The group members discovered the difficulties they experienced during the Coronavirus days and some of the knowledge, skills, and values that sustained them in the face of these difficulties. They decided to write a poem together to express both these difficulties and ways of coping. They wanted to share the poem they wrote. They would like to convey the purpose of this sharing to you with the following words:
"In this poem, we have included the difficulties we have experienced and some of our values, hopes, and knowledge that we think have helped us in this process. We wanted to share our poem with as many people as possible because we hope that it can make both us and the people who are having a hard time in this process feel the message that "we are not alone". We have also included a link to some music that we like to listen to. We enjoyed reading our poem accompanied by this music. We thought that maybe you might like to listen to it accompanied by music. We hope it will be a pleasant experience!"
If reading our poem had an impact on you, please contribute with your feedback. We have prepared a few questions that we hope will help you when you send us your contributions. You can find the questions at the link at the end of the document. If you wish, you can answer the questions that are close to you. We look forward to your contributions!
On a Small Stone Thrown into the Sea
This poem is a small stone thrown into the sea
Its impact is expanding ring by ring.
Or that there's a new wave
It belongs to a few of the millions of starfish
On its way to reach the waters where it belongs.
Molded by our experiences,
A few words about our life achievements
Loneliness, uncertainty, worries about losing loved ones:
Even if the weight in our chest tries to stop us,
We know that life does not wait to be lived,
We do what we love over and over again
For example, we read our novels and call our friends
Or maybe it's our mother's habit
We water our flowers.
The veil of uncertainty is lifted
When positive emotions reach out like a hand
We believe that emotions are contagious
Therefore, we share positive emotions
Uncertainty as heavy as this cannonball
Today and tomorrow seem to grow by rolling.
What we must remember:
We have a life ahead of us
Not to be skipped, but to be lived
With the intention of leaving a good thing behind.
Change is like a belt around our arms these days
Even if he tries to keep us from each other
We find healing in each other.
After all, human beings love contact
We remember the old saying: he who does not speak his troubles cannot find a cure.
Enough of hearing "turn the crisis into an opportunity!"
As the days roll by,
As the list of opportunities turns into crisis
The moment slips from your grasp.
Instead of thoughts of "I can't keep up"
We prefer to value what we do, even if it is little
Anxieties are knots in our throats
Each of the knots makes sense
As we get closer to Allah.
A familiar voice whispers:
He will teach you something new every day, listen!
The weather is cloudy, the sky gray
Ants walk around step by step
Uncertainty runs through our veins like poison
Ants are the cure for the poison that tries to numb us
Let's take small little steps on our way
We look like beached starfish these days, but
Our homeland is those vast, life-giving waters
The one who will lead us to those waters
We have hopes, dreams, and loved ones.
The rings that this stone we throw into the sea will set in motion
It is our wish that it grows with many drops.
